The new city of Gatineau was created on January 1, 2002, following the amalgamation of the former cities of Aylmer, Hull, Gatineau, Masson-Angers and Buckingham. Gatineau is located at the southwestern edge of the province of Québec at the confluence of the Gatineau and Ottawa rivers. With Ontario just behind it to the south, Gatineau is a major hub for economic and social development. People living in Gatineau have access to a wide range of sporting and recreational facilities.
